Welcome to Concord Summer School
Concord has been running Summer Courses for over 50 years and in that time considerable expertise and tradition has been built up. I have been associated with the summer programme for many years and in that time many thousands of young people have attended our courses. It never ceases to amaze me how students from very diverse cultures, religions and creeds, live and study together so well and make such long-lasting friendships. Each year students from around 40 different countries attend our summer schools and the atmosphere of friendship and cooperation is very special.
At Concord we are always striving to improve our facilities and the design of the courses. Suggestions from students and staff are welcomed and have led to the gradual evolution of our courses to those that are found at present. We have invested in the infrastructure of the campus with improved sports facilities and equipment, new boarding houses and upgrading of others, a new science block, theatre with music practice rooms and a lovely new student centre with a disco and internet cafe where students can relax and socialise.
We have just completed a new, state of the art, building with 9 classrooms and are refurbishing the West Wing to give a new library and more classrooms. The front of the College has been landscaped making the Main House now look even more striking than before. A high ropes course has just been constructed by the Sports Hall and this will add even more variety to our recreation programme.
At Easter we will begin work on construction of 3 new Science laboratories to complement the suite constructed 4 years ago.
We were inspected by the British Council this summer (2009) and were delighted with their report which was glowing. The publishable statement from the Accreditation Unit can be seen below;
"Publishable Statement:- The British Council inspected and accredited Concord College in July 2009. The Accreditation Scheme assesses the standards of management, resources and premises, teaching and welfare and accredits organisations which meet the overall standard in each area inspected (see www.britishcouncil.org/accreditation for details).
This private boarding school offers residential courses in general English for under 18s.
Points of excellence were noted in aspects of general management, premises, academic management and teaching, pastoral care, leisure programme and facilities and care of under 16s.
The inspection report stated that the organisation met the standards of the Scheme.
The provision met UK Border Agency requirments for private education providers.
Recommendation
